A Weekend Wedding Venue for DC and Northern Virginia Couples
leave the city on Friday
Wedding venues in DC and Northern Virginia book fast and cost a premium, and the celebration usually lasts one evening. Northfield Estate is a different idea: a private 50-acre estate in Cumberland, Virginia, about two and a half to three hours south, where you and your closest people stay the weekend.
Our weekend packages run Friday through Sunday. Arrive Friday, get married Saturday under the sailcloth tent or in the chandeliered ballroom, and leave Sunday. No other event is booked on the estate while you're here.

Why DC Couples Choose a Weekend Away
A wedding three hours from home becomes a destination weekend: guests take Friday off, the rehearsal dinner happens on the grounds, and nobody is checking the time to beat traffic home. It is the feel of a destination wedding without a flight.
For a guest list of 150 or 200, a private estate also avoids the hotel-ballroom look that comes with many city venues.
02 DC & Northern Virginia
Fredericksburg and the I-95 Corridor
From Fredericksburg and Stafford the drive is closer to two hours: south on I-95, then west from the Richmond area. Many guests from the corridor drive down Saturday morning and stay in Farmville that night.
Where DC and Northern Virginia Guests Stay
The couple and their closest family stay in the estate house with a weekend package. Other guests stay in Farmville, about 20 minutes from the estate, where Hotel Weyanoke and several chain hotels hold room blocks. Spring and fall weekends fill a year or more ahead, so reserve blocks early.

How far is Northfield Estate from Washington, DC?
About two and a half to three hours by car, depending on traffic and your starting point in DC or Northern Virginia. Fredericksburg is about two hours away.
Is Northfield a good fit for a destination wedding from DC?
Yes. Our Friday-through-Sunday weekend packages include nights in the manor house and close the estate to other events, which is the point of a destination weekend.
Do guests need transportation from their hotels?
Hired transportation is required for weddings over 150 guests, and a shuttle from Farmville hotels is a good idea for any group.
